The Pistons have announced the dates for their summer youth training camps. All the details are after the jump.

No word on if Joe will be scouting the participants this year.

This is exactly why the NHL is a 3rd rate league!

I like NHL Playoff hockey as much as the next guy, but what we witnessed in game three of the Red Wings vs. Anaheim is more proof that the NHL is and will always be a third rate league.  In what other league do they "wave off" a legitimate score because the referee couldn't follow the action?

The Red Wings lost for a number of reasons on Tuesday night but they certainly should have had the opportunity to play an overtime to determine the winner of the game.  Instead they are down 2-1 with game four on the road.

This isn't the first time the NHL has been embarrassed by incompetent officiating (see the Dallas goal in the Stanley Cup Finals).  This seems to happen yearly in the NHL and the frustration is compounded by the fact that the day to day calls are often inconsistent.  When is the last time you watched an NHL game and actually walked away feeling good about the way the game was called?

I was so sad hearing that Chuck Daly had passed away. The Pistons organization lost two profoundly important members of their family this year. Whenever I heard Coach Daly interviewed the last few years, usually around playoff time, he would joke with the hosts about playing golf with some celebrity, or going fishing with another. But he was by all accounts, quite a humble man. Many years ago when I was a really struggling artist—as compared to just a struggling artist—I was doing editorial illustration for the now defunct Crain publication, Detroit Monthly. I befriended a few of the staff in the art department and the media, and was occasionally invited to parties and openings. This was circa 1985-86, where big hair and big parties were the norm. One such opening was then Red Wings’ coach Jacques Demers’ restaurant. I was sort of star-struck, hanging around with a bunch of players from the Wings, Tigers, heck, even the Lions hadn’t degraded to the mess they’ve been these last 10 years. It was pretty cool. Lots of great food, beautiful women, and rubbing elbows with local celebs. Oh. And an open bar.
